1950's Burleigh Ware Modernist Leaf Pattern Vase/Jug
This unusual vase is Mid-Century design personified! Both stylish and elegant in its proportions, it features an acid-yellow and orange stylised leaf pattern, highlighted in a subtle lustre overglaze, with a yellow lustre rim.
With a tactile, semi-matt finish, in an off white shade, we feel it would be a lovely statement piece in any retro or vintage styled home. It's also worth mentioning that with its fluted neck and handle, we feel it could equally be used as vase or water/drinks pitcher.
Key Points:
• A tall modernist vase/drinks pitcher
• Bold Mid-Century Leaf detailing to its body in black, orange and yellow
• Tactile satin-matt glaze with lustre detailing to its pattern and inner rim
• Made by Burgess and Leigh (Burleigh Ware), Staffordshire
History:
Burgess and Leigh are highly collectible manufacturers, producing beautiful and often very unusual designs. Burgess & Leigh could be found in Burslem, from 1862 to 1867. In 1867 they took the earthenware department of Hill Pottery and then from 1899 moved to the Middleport Works which was purpose built for them.
This piece carries the 'Burleigh Ware' back stamp dating from circa 1950s and an impressed '164' mould/pattern number
Year of manufacture:
c. 1950s
Approximate Measurements:
24.5cm H / 8.5cm Diameter at rim / 12.5cm W including handles
Condition:
Very good condition though with patchy signs of wear to its inner rim/glaze. It overall shows light surface crazing in line with age and some areas of common discolouration from use/water to its interior.
Its pattern and exterior however are fresh and very clean and it displays beautifully. It is free of chips, cracks, nibbles or repair.

Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear'. We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using the zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description.
Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
