Very Rare Large Pheasant Vase by F Winkle & Co
This large, stunningly patterned urn shape vase, features a rich Chinoiserie design depicting an exotic pheasant with vivid plumage, amongst bold flowers and foliage.
Dating from the between 1908 and 1911, by F. Winkle and Co, (Whieldon Ware), its pattern is transfer printed over a very subtle cream, semi-porcelain ground and further carefully hand over-painted in rich tones.
This very scare and rather beautiful piece, we feel would sit conformably in a vintage, cottage, or farmhouse interior with its ever popular Chinoiserie aesthetic and cheerful colour palette.

F. Winkle and Co were Earthenware manufacturers at the Colonial Pottery, Whieldon Road, Stoke-on-Trent, England. They used the trade name Whieldon Ware, named after the famous 18th Century
potter Thomas Whieldon, who lived and worked
in the area. Though their Phesant pattern was a popular design, large examples, especially vases, are very scarce.
Approximate Measurements:
H: 30cm (12")
W 16cm (6") at widest point of body
W 7cm (2.75") diameter at rim
Condition:
It is in excellent antique condition throughout, free of notable wear or damage to its pattern and free of chips, cracks or crazing. It does have some wear/fading to its gilt rim and a little residue deep in its interior from use, but nothing visible on 'display'.
