Orange Soda Glaze 'Fenella Fern' Studio Pottery Vases | Porthleven Pottery Brown Orange Vase | Fat Lava Retro
from £0.00
These beautiful orange and brown vintage studio pottery vases, would make beautiful additions to any space.
Warm, tactile and inviting, we think they'd look perfect on display, with their retro good looks being suited to both contemporary or vintage styled interiors.
Key Points:
• Two gorgeous vases in a bright orange, brown and cream glaze
• Dramatic soda glazed and textured finish to exterior and a glazed interior
• One in a Squat pot-bellied shape (NOW SOLD) , the other more tapered with a flat 'back'
• Made by Fenella Fern, (Porthleven Pottery) one marked with her signature 'F' to base
• Priced each (please select choice from dropdown)
History:
Porthleven Pottery was owned Graham Fern and his daughter Fenella, also a potter based in the small town of Porthleven, Cornwall. Their most sought after designs, are those with their rustic, bright red/orange soda glazed decoration. The company ran from 1967 and until the mid-late 80s, although little is know about their time in the U.K., Graham and Fenella later moved from home in Rinsey to New Zealand.
Year of manufacture:
c. 1970s
Design:
Whilst differing in their shape and design, both feature similar unique abstract patterns in complimentary tones.
The slightly taller of the two vases (style B), has a rather unusual 'flat back' (please refer to image 7 for clarity) meaning it could be easily positioned on a shelf, or against a wall taking up minimal space. Both have the studio's characteristic 'combed' bases, but with only the round vase being marked with their signature 'F' marking.
Approximate Measurements:
Vase A. NOW SOLD
Vase B. Flat Backed Vase - 9cm H / 5.5cm Diameter at rim / 9cm W at widest point
Condition:
Both are in excellent condition for their age, showing only light signs of use or wear. The 'flat' backed vase does have a small area of missing glaze to its front face; this is at its base and isn't particularly noticeable or 'bothersome' given its rich, textured finish - this is highlighted for clarity in image 10. Both have very light signs of wear to their glazed interior in line with use.

Postage & Packaging:
As per our brand ethos, your item will be very carefully and securely shipped, wrapped with the utmost care in sustainable recycled and recyclable packaging.
U.K. Shipping:
These will be sent on a FREE Royal Mail second class service.
Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what ‘we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear’.
We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using Etsy's zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description. Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities within the Etsy format. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
