Set of Three - Victorian Pewter & Copper Gill Measures and Miniature Tankard

£35.00

This beautiful set of two antique gill measures and a miniature copper tankard, would make superb display pieces, or great little bud vases for a posy of seasonal blooms.

The all carry a wonderful aged patina through years of use. The gills come in 1/4 gill and 1/12 pint capacities and the copper jug little more than a large 'thimble full', being particularly petite. The gills were made by the quality pewterers Gaskell & Chambers of Birmingham and come fully marked the copper tankard being somewhat of a mystery.

Key Points:
• A set of three antique measures
• 2 Victorian pewter gills
• 1 tiny copper tankard
• Pewter marked Gaskell & Chambers, Birmingham
• Excellent yet characterful condition throughout

Set of three.

Year of manufacture:
c. 1890-1900

Good to know:
Cornelius Chambers acquired the pewtering business of Peter Gaskell in 1892 and traded from 60, Stafford Street, Birmingham. Gaskell and Chambers did not just deal in pewter, but also bar fittings, pumps and many other related products. As seen in these two examples, they have inside the base an ‘X’ with a triangle below a G&C mark.

A Gill is a measure of liquid, equalling one fourth of a standard U.K. pint. So a quarter Gill (or a 'nip') is 35.5ml. Used in years past for alcoholic spirits measures, it still remains as the standard measure in pubs in Ireland.

Approximate Dimensions:
1/4 gill:
1/12 pint gill:
Tiny Copper Tankard:

Condition:
All items are in excellent yet characterful condition showing a rustic patina in line with years of use. There are couple of little dents to the 1/12 pint gill measure and the copper tankards rim and all all carry surface marks and aged patination.

Postage & Packaging:
As per our brand ethos, your item will be very carefully and securely shipped, wrapped with the utmost care in sustainable recycled and recyclable packaging.

Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear'. We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using the zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description.

Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
