Very EARLY Minton Amherst Japan Plate in Characterful Condition

£35.00

Introducing a very characterful and most honest example, of top quality English Minton Ironstone china. Though clearly very well used, it is a EARLY example, in the Amherst Japan pattern, featuring a luscious, cobalt blue and brick red Chinoiserie design.

Its bold pattern is set against a gorgeous blue-white background, with a beautifully 'weathered' feel, that would be completely at home amongst other antique ceramics, or as part of a dresser display.

We absolutely adore this intricate pattern and feel even with its obvious wear, it is as functional now as the day it was produced.

Key Points:
• A characterful antique side plate
• In a rich hand painted Chinoiserie pattern
• Stunning detail, in cobalt blue, brick red with hints of yellow
• Marked to base with their printed scroll mark, diamond and two impressed marks
• Its gentle pricing for a piece as old and special as this, is reflective of its condition

History
Synonymous with high quality wares, the Minton factory was founded in Stoke-on-Trent in 1796 by Thomas Minton. He made Minton wares famous for a cream-coloured and blue-printed earthenware, majolica and bone china. His factory was unmatched in the Victorian period for its "art" porcelains and he also made popular the famous 'Willow' pattern.

Year of manufacture:

An EARLY example - c. 1830+

Pattern:
Amherst Japan

Origin:
England

Approximate Measurements:
17.5cm W (7") Diameter at rim

Condition:
As detailed above and in all our imagery, this piece is not age and characterful patina. Please do refer to all associated photos for clarity, using Etsy's zoom facility, so you are 100% happy with its condition.

This piece has clearly, been very well used over its long life and has loss of colour to its pattern along with numerous utensil marks from use. Some minor spots of discolouration to its back, but free of chips, cracks nibbles or crazing. All things considered, we do think that it is still an absolutely stunning piece, wear and all, and too precious to simply be discarded as 'broken'... it is still FIRMLY RESOLUTE many years left to serve! The most perfect piece, if you want the weathered patina of a genuine antique.

Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear'. We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using the zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description.

Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
