• Iconic Art Deco Styling
• Part of the highly desirable Mattita series - marked to its back
• Produced by Fieldings, Crown Devon, Stoke-on-Trent

Year of manufacture:
c. 1930s

History :
Crown Devon pottery, started its life as S. Fielding & Co, but as of 1921, after changes to the business the 'Crown Devon' name was introduced.

In this era of progression and innovation, Crown Devon lured Enoch Boulton away from their main competitor, Carlton Ware, making him chief designer. This proved a stroke of genius, with his Mattita, Mattasung and Mattatone series being highly desirable.

It is Crown Devon's rich history and pioneering techniques, that have, in recent years added to their collectability, meaning some of their most sought after wares are from the 1930s.

This piece is marked with Crown Devon Fieldings 'Mattita' back stamp, along with a M67 mark and impressed 300 pattern number. It has three 'purpose made' manufacturing holes to its back where it would have been wall hung from a wire ‘O’ loop’ .

Condition:
No cracks, repairs or restoration, It displays wonderfully, having only light, even, minor crazing to its glaze completely in line with it’s age.

The only tiny flaws of note is a small pinprick of missing glaze to front of its surface decoration from the time of manufacture and two very, very minor flea nibbles to its reverse from presumably where its metal hanging mechanism once sat. These are both non problematic and do not in anyway detract from the beauty, or appeal of the piece. Please refer to all images for clarity.

Buyers Guide:

It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear’.

We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos,  as these naturally form part of the item's description. Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
