Victorian Alhambrian Majolica Display Plate c1880s

£28.00

This very pretty, elaborately decorated, Victorian majolica plate is in excellent condition and a real show-stopper!

Featuring a stunning relief pattern and intricately shaped rim, it is decorated in gorgeous earth tones with hints of pink and lilac accented with gilt.

Key Points:
• A beautiful Victorian Majolica display plate
• Intricately moulded, featuring floral and scrolls with a pretty scalloped edge
• Earth tones mixed with soft pastels accented with glossy golden gilt work
• Likely of Staffordshire origin

History:
As commonly found in this era, there is a lack of a conclusive 'makers mark', that said, we believed it to be by one of the Staffordshire potteries, renowned for their fashionable Majolica wares in the mid to late 19th century.

Year of manufacture:
c. 1880-1890

Pattern:
Alhambrian

We believe the partly visible "belt and garter'" stamp on its base reads 'Alhambrian', this being its pattern name, rather than the actual pottery company who produced it. It further has an impressed mould/pattern number 490.

Approximate Measurements:
22cm / 8.5" W Diameter

Condition
It is in excellent antique condition throughout with its earthenware construction free from any chips or nibbles with no missing paint or glaze spots, which are sadly sometimes found on these items. The design is crisp, displaying only the usual very (light) age related crazing. The plate displays wonderfully well.

Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear'. We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using the zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description.

Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
