This beautiful and most scarce Victorian cabinet plate, dating from 1886, and was made by Wallis Gimson & Co to commemorate British Prime Minister, William Ewart Gladstone. Such antique Ironstone wares are is highly collectible, this plate being octagonal in shape and transfer-printed in inky black. Gladstone's portrait is framed with a garland of wild roses, along with a list of his many successes through his life.

We love its intricate detail, precise typography; offering a lovely graphic quality and its warm off-white Ironstone finish, edged in gilt.

Wallis Gimson & Co were earthenware manufactures at the Lane Delph Pottery, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, operational for only a short time between 1882 and 1890. They specialised in Aesthetic Movement pieces and series such as The World and Achievements of notable Victorians, this special plate being one of them. It is marked to its reverse with Gimson's Rd. No. 41050, dating the piece to 1886.

Condition:
In very good antique condition for its years displaying handsomely. It has plenty of wear and rub to its gilt edges, along with one very small, historic sliced nibble to its back face, though that is not visible unless upended and doesn't in anyway comprise the piece.
