Originally salvaged from an old workshop, these tins were rescued as a beautiful 'chippy' display pieces!

Both have lovely vintage type and worn patina, the smaller oblong tin being a scarce early 1940's example.

Key Points:
• A pair old metal tobacco tins
• Characterful aged patina in blue and gold
• Lovely vintage typography to both front faces
• Made John Player's and Sons
• Both in well used and characterful condition
• Price is for the pair

History:
The phrase 'Navy Cut' is believed to have originated from sailors taking a mixture of tobacco leaves and then binding them together with twine. This would then 'mature' under pressure and the sailor could then dispense the tobacco by slicing off a "cut".

Year of manufacture

c. 1940s-1960s

Approximate Measurements:
Rare Oblong Tin: 9.5cm L / 6cm W / 2.5cm H
Round Tin: 8.5cm Diameter / 2.5cm H

Condition:
Both tins carry overall general wear and tear from years being out in a workshop environment, complete with surface rusting, marks, lovely discolouration, aged patina and surface scratches, however the branding on both is legible and the wear only adds to their sense of charm and history. Their interiors are marked and worn but more than usable. Both lid fit very snugly.

Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear'. We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using the zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description.

Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
