This lovely old Victorian era 1/2 pint tankard, is beautifully made by one of the finest silversmiths of its time. Its generous handle feels great in your hand, perfect for cocktail making, but would look equally stylish out on display.

History:
Joseph Rodgers & Sons was a famous firm of cutlers and silversmiths, based in Sheffield. They reached their absolute height of their success in the late 19th Century and were granted the Royal warrant in 1821 by George IV, this accolade continuing through the reign of Queen Victoria. They are particularly well known for their high quality flat wear and silver goods.

Hallmarks of this piece
• The verification mark can be seen stamped VR with crown over and number 6, this signifies that the cup was made for the British Royal Government under Queen Victoria's rule.
(VR=Victoria Regia) and Royal Inspector #6 performed the proofing at Birmingham. It is believed the D is a date stamp.
• The star and cross mark was used by Joseph Rodgers & Sons from c1871 up to about c1900.
• 1630 is this items catalogue catalogue number
• E P signifies it is is Electroplated Silver

7.5cm H / 10.5cm W (including handle) 7.5cm Diameter at rim

Condition:
In great antique condition however with some characterful wear throughout. It has clearly been well used, but notably well cared for over the years. It has some surface marks, tarnish spots from being held and the odd small dent adding to its charm and backstory. Its interior is somewhat tarnished, especially at the base, though clean. All in all a quality, heavyweight piece, supplied as with all our metalwares, in 'as sourced' condition.
