RARE Sowerby 'Marigold' Carnival Glass Boat Shaped Dish

Sale Price:£18.00 Original Price:£35.00
sale

We adore this 1930s decorative dish, for its soft 'saw-tooth' edge, curved boat shaped silhouette and intricate 'hobstar' pattern.

Found in a very scare colour, called Marigold, it shimmers through tones of golds, hot pink, green and blue, reminiscent of pools of oil on water.

Additionally, it comes complete, with its matching chromed decorative basket, an item that was an additional aftermarket 'extra' at the time of purchase.

Key Points:
• 'Carnival Glass' Dish and metal basket
• 'Boat' shaped dish in a RARE 'Marigold' colour
• Rich iridescent colours sparkle in the light
• With its original optional 'aftermarket' basket
• Made by Sowerby Glassworks, Tyneside
• It features in Sowerby's 1933 catalogue
• Wonderful condition for age

Year of manufacture:

c. 1933

Pattern:
No. 2480

Approximate Measurements:
Dish: 16cm W / 7cm H (at tallest point)
Dish with Basket: 19cm W / 15cm H (at tallest point of basket handle)

Condition:
Dish: Fantastic condition with no signs of chips, nibbles, scratches or cracks, likely having little to no use. Any inclusions or bubbles in the glass are typical of the period, and not considered flaws. All wear is consistent with age and minimal use
Basket: A Great condition for age, with all leaves in tact and present. Showing minor signs of tarnished discolouration to some areas of metal, but nothing that we feel detracts from the appeal or look of the item as a whole.

Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear'. We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using the zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description.

Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
